During the course of the investigation, Mulder and Scully end up questioning the Peacock brothers, who live in an old shambling house without electricity or running water that had apparently missed out on the 20th century.

You will never look under the bed in the dark again.Ī refresher: “Home” was a stand-alone “monster-of-the-week” episode that had Mulder and Scully investigating the discovery of a deformed baby buried near the home of the Peacocks in a small town in Pennsylvania. It is scary in the sense that visions from the episode will stick with you for days, months, maybe years, and come to you in your sleep and stir you awake in a cold sweat covered in your own piss. It’s not scary in the sense that it will make you fear for your life, or jump out of your skin. It will f*ck you up and haunt you to the core of your soul. If you haven’t seen “Home,” stop whatever you’re doing and track it down. For all the subverted horror tropes, gore, and twisted sexual perversions in Ryan Murphy’s The American Horror Story, it has nothing on what may be considered the most disturbing episode of television in network history, the X-Files episode, “Home,” which holds up as well now as it did 17 years ago. Postal Service.Whenever Halloween arrives, I’m always reminded of one of my all-time favorite episodes of television.
X FILES HOME UPPROXX HOW TO
Patients – who were called "doctors", since the term "patient" has unhealthy associations – learned how to shed the darkness of their minds by mastering therapies taught by the institute's staff which, to inspire a sense of empirical transmigration, is modeled after the U.S. Goopta then opened an institute to help teach people how to become more self-helpful. And upon the release of his masterpiece, Goopta hit the lecture hall circuit, always preaching to standing room only, for he shrewdly refrained from providing chairs. Out of pure desperation, he managed – in a single, feverish night – to crank out a book that changed the course of human history: "How to Be Happy, Even When You Shouldn't." It was quickly followed by the bestsellers, "How to Manipulate People by Your Apparent Friendliness", and "How to Overcome Your Fears by Making Others Fear You". And his first forays into detective fiction proved so inept, they were mistaken for brilliant parody and finding immediate publication in the highbrow literary journal, "The Dark Mask." During recovery – though still obviously suffering from dementia – he set forth on a new dream: to become a writer. He quickly switched majors to philosophy but alas, while reading Kirkegaard's "Sickness Unto Death", he became sick and nearly died. Unfortunately, his own brain could not comprehend basic biology. His goal was to be the first to comprehend how the biology of the brain gives birth to the greatest mystery of life: self-consciousness.

Upon graduating high school, he went off to college with a dream of someday becoming a famous neuroscientist. Other than the name the beard, he was a normal boy, who suffered all the usual humiliations of a normal childhood. Once upon a time, two East Indian immigrants gave birth to a baby boy, whom they loved very dearly, yet nevertheless named "Juggernaut Onan Goopta". It features a cameo from David Duchovny as the cult's version of Tom Cruise and is in some ways even better than From Outer Space.

Just in case any fans of this episode didn't know, Chris Carter's other series Millennium had a sequel to this episode, called Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense, in which Jose Chung writes a novel on a cult directly based on Scientology. R/television's favorite shows of all time (2021 edition)
